New things abound at Lafayette, Indiana’s Columbian Park, and if you know of it already, you know it seriously looks like a different place. The improvements and advancements are quality, creating an entirely new feel to the already beautiful 40 acre inner city park. Classic aspects to the park still exist: the train, diverse and age appropriate playgrounds, and rentable gazebos, etc., but now progress is happening too. Loeb Stadium
The south side of Columbian Park took in some major visual changes and Loeb Stadium is one large culprit of that change! Loeb Stadium was built this past year to bring more baseball to our area. Lafayette Aviators call this new stadium their home as well as little leaguers from our community. The surrounding stoplights, sidewalks, and streetlights also benefitted from this upgrade, completing the look they were going for. It truly is a fantastic addition to Columbian Park, making the south entrance to the park feel luxurious.
Tropicanoe Cove
Tropicanoe Cove gained a couple slides within the past couple years, expanding the entertainment level of Columbian Park‘s pool to high quality good times. There’s fun for all aged kiddos to have an amazing time here. These slides actually even entertain the adults who come too! Columbian Park Zoo
Columbian Park has always been ahead of the curve here by adding a zoo to our community. We love the joy this brings to kiddos of all ages. Whether it’s a stay at home mom bringing her kids for the day, or families engaging and growing in knowledge at one of their awesome summer camps, Columbian Park Zoo offers an opportunity learn and grow! This year, Columbian Park added just a couple things. A PENGUIN EXHIBIT (YAY!), and a $2/person ages 3 and up entrance fee to cover the daily costs of upkeep. Check out family membership passes! We can’t recommend this place enough for a fun outing event in the community!
Lagoon, Train, and Amphitheater
As an upgrade on classic Columbian Park, these areas have gotten minor facelifts. New paint on the train and new track laid for its course. Deepening and widening of the lagoon. Paddle boats returning to the mix after many years of hiatus. And finally, new improvements to the amphitheater to welcome anything that might need a stage. This area is neat to take a summer walk through and around, and you’ll love spending time on the north side of the park.
Things to Come
Changes are still in progress. Completion of the project include a carousel and some more overall landscaping and grounds work. Be sure to enjoy this little gift of an inner city park for some quality times with family and friends!
