Greater Lafayette Food Series: Barbeque

Let’s take a trip South of the Mason Dixon line and taste what Greater Lafayette, IN has to offer in the Barbecue cuisine category. As it turns out, we’re really rockin’ it in this food bracket, and we’re not mad about it. Barbecue, when it’s done just right, is one of the best types of food out there.

D&R BBQ

Step into this deli style, fast casual restaurant for some of the best BBQ in Lafayette, IN. You can order a single plate for yourself or take it to go by the pound. Maybe even have D&R cater your next event. Any way, you’ll enjoy this spot for sure. According to the website, “D&R BBQ has been voted as the best BBQ restaurant in the state.” Burnt Ends are available on Wednesdays. Click here to follow along with more weekly and daily specials. D&R BBQ attaches to an actual market that carries a variety of items: a butcher shop, rare finds for fresh never frozen seafood, morel mushrooms when they’re in season, and more. Be sure to check that out when you visit as well!

Revolution Barbeque

Another fast casual experience with a modern twist. Revolution Barbeque offers the standard plates and sides you’re looking for in a BBQ spot, but they also offer daily specials such as a whole duck, giant turkey legs, poblano grits, and more. They also have a taco option that sets them apart! Desserts too from their sister store, Sweet Revolution Bake Shop. Pies and all the yummy things! If you enjoy sauce with your smoked meat, check out the Strawberry Habanero for a sweet and spicy addition to your meal. Attached to the main dining area is a full bar where you can relax with some equally creative drink options!

South Street Smokehouse

A Greater Lafayette, IN classic spot! The decor isn’t anything fancy, but you’ll love the casual feel. South Street is a popular lunch stop for many Lafayette locals with saliva-inducing sandwich options that’ll keep you coming back for more! We recommend the Kanas City Brisket sandwich here- “slow cooked brisket piled high topped with homemade onion rings and a slice of provolone”. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Ripple & Company

Downtown Lafayette, IN’s newest BBQ restaurant! Not only is the interior of this brand new building immaculate, but come in for some coffee and BBQ. That’s right. At this one stop shop, you’ll enjoy a little location of Greyhouse Coffee (a Lafayette, IN original coffee shop) and lunch too! Original options here include Prime rib, “really good” tofu, strawberry jalapeño slaw, “Ripple” (homemade) potato chips, and so much more.

Crabby Mike’s

Brisket, pork chop sandwiches, potato salad, smoked wings, pork belly ends…..need we say more!?! Crabby Mike’s BBQ recently opened at their new location in West Lafayette near the end of 2020 and you’re going to want to check it out! They offer online ordering and delivery options too! Check the specials on their website!

Smolder Barbecue

You’ll only see this one around during the summer months because it’s a food truck! However, it’s worth a mention in our book. Smolder BBQ delivers creative and delicious BBQ options on nachos and such, and we just want you to know it’s available. Great prices for an on-the-go meal at a local festival or wherever you happen to spot them!

There are actually still quite a few more BBQ food restaurants in the Greater Lafayette, IN area to mention, but we don’t have a space to elaborate on them all! Here’s a short list with links to their website. They all carry their own strengths! Give each one a try for fun and create your own list!
